Hi Everyone,
I have really been trying to kick this coffee addiction but it’s starting to become difficult. I was watching Dr. Oz the other day and he was saying that we should replace our coffee with a cup of tea. He mentioned Green Tea but it got me to thinking about the other types of teas they have available out there and what are some effects they can have. Green Tea is a good tea to use for weight loss but what else? So as I was surfing through the internet for this information and I stumbled upon an article about “TEA” and as luck would have it the health value of specific ingredients used in everyday herbal teas. I am not really a tea buff so Green Tea and Chamomile is about as far as my vocab goes. They listed 10 herbal teas. How many do you think you can name? It says that these particular teas offer unique health benefits because they contain such natural ingredients like dried leaves, seeds, grasses, barks and flowers, and mixed together they have powerful curative abilities that range from promoting relaxation to aiding in indigestion. Of the 10, Chamomile made #1, of course we know that this tea is used to help relax our nerves. A great tea to enjoy before bed.
Peppermint tea which I have to say I have had once or twice in my life is known to help soothe irritable bowel syndrome because of the menthol it contains. Also this tea helps with those of you out there with bad breath. Don’t worry, it happens to the best of us. Just drink the tea!
Another tea that is listed is debated as to whether is really does reduce the chances of getting the common cold, Echinacea, and although that fact has not been proven as of yet, Echinacea does assist in enhancing the immune system, reduce inflammation and have antioxidants that are beneficial.
I really believe that you learn something new every day and I did not know that you can dry out an orange peel and boil it. Did you know that drinking this could boost your immune system?
I’ll mention 1 more. I have never heard of the Hawthorn plant before but I found it interesting because this tea can actually improve cardiovascular health by helping to relax and dilate the blood vessels and it relieves water retention.
This just goes to show that we should be putting more natural ingredients in our bodies, look at the effects it could have. Food manufacturers say they are trying to look out for our health but when you do the research you realize just how bad the choices are out there. For those of you with health concerns already this could be an easy adjustment. So let’s get on board people, drink a little tea!
Now I only mentioned 5 of the 10 but for the full article go to http://www.womansday.com/Articles/Food/Tools-Tips/10-Healing-Herbs-Used-in-Teas.html
You may find it intriguing!

Yeah, there are a lot of different types of plants that can make teas. They still have caffeine in them, but a lot less than coffee does, especially because most people add so much sugar and creamer. I can’t get with the tea kick. It makes me feel old. But maybe I should.. hmm.. we shall see. I’ll keep YOU updated.

Why are people so weak as to only define themselves by what they don’t eat or drink?
This kind of snake-oil thinking is unfortunately a human trait that has not disappeared with the carnival barkers who used to hawk the supposed health benefits.

Hi Bonnie,
I’m not sure why they would be weak minded? Or how it defines them if they choose something a little healthier. Health is a important factor in life and even Dr.’s say a cup of tea is better than coffee.
