What do you do when your child won’t stop lying?

I have a 6 year old that won’t stop lying? I mean lying for no reason, even when he’s not in trouble. I have become this parent that needs to analyze everything thing my kids do because I don’t want to mess them up mentally. So, I keep wondering to myself “why won’t this kid stop lying? I’m not a liar, I don’t hang around liars, and I constantly tell him that lying is not a good thing. I explain how much easier it would be for him if he’d stop lying. Nothing seems to work.  Is this some type of prank on me because I feel like I’m being punk’d? I’d like to pride myself on being a good mother but this is crazy.

You know what’s so funny is when I go to my mom for a little mommyvice she always says “I don’t know Vivian, you didn’t act like that”. I’m glad to know I was such a good child. God love her, she is the best but when it comes to mommyvice there is none. Other family members say “he needs a whooping” but ummm…that’s not how I want to get my kids to listen to me plus I’ve tried it and it doesn’t work.  So how do you stop lying? How do you reason, or can you reason with a 6 year old? Please share your thoughts….

I would like to know myself how to get them to stop lying….because children who tell stories end up being storytelling adults. Someone please give me some insight to it.

That is true, which is why I need the advice. I’ve seen it happen first hand. Habits to do not die as you get older, they just intensify. I’ve heard that how you are by 6yrs old is how you will be in adulthood. My son is 6, I’m trying to stop this trouble for the future.
